Boao Salon
Openness in the World History of Humanities
Location: (Dongyu Island Hotel, Yiyong & Changyan Ballrooms)
Time: 20:00 - 21:30
Description:

-From ancient Greek to oriental civilizations, what impact has progress in intellectual and humanistic fields created on productivity and technology? Is technological progress the driver of the spirit of the humanities or vice versa? Should the spirit of the humanities be the soul of technology development?
- “Technology changes life” is a catch phrase we often hear in commercials. Undoubtedly, technology is the most direct driver of change in terms of how we live and behave. However, how will we be changed by the spirit of the humanities if we look at it from the perspective of a much longer term? How do we remain deeply influenced by ancient wisdom?
-Surrounded by an explosive wealth of information, we seem to have broken away from a lack of information, but are we truly more “open” now? What are the ancient thoughts and wisdom that will pale us in comparison? Can we find solutions from history to address the issues we face today?
-Prominent experts in the humanities from home and abroad will explore together whether our current technological explosion is an opportunity or a challenge for the spirit of the humanities. How can the spirit of the humanities adapt to the future? For example, will the rise of consumerism make cultures more homogenous and superficial?
