At the session on “Agriculture, Rural Areas and Farmers in the Fast-Urbanizing Country” during the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2015, LI Tie, Director of China Center for Urban Development in National Development and Reform Commission, stated that China must secure the basic production of agricultural products and provide important agricultural commodities on its own.

He suggested that in order to ensure China’s food security, China should not rely heavily on the international food market because of the instability of international food market, negative political implications of farming abroad and the limited total amount of agricultural throughout the world.
