President and Chief Strategy Officer, Samsung Electronics

Young Sohn is President and Chief Strategy Officer for Samsung Electronics. He leads development and implementation of the strategy behind the global innovation and future technology investment agenda for Samsung Electronics. Based in Silicon Valley, Young is responsible for accelerating open innovation in new and emerging technologies being developed worldwide. Young previously served as CEO and president for four other Silicon Valley-based public companies including Quantum Corporation, Oak Technologies, Agilent Semiconductor (now Avago) and Inphi Corporation. In addition, he helped to take three companies public while serving as either CEO or as a board member (at PLX Technologies, Synnex Technologies and Inphi). Also, he was a long time board member of ARM Holdings PLC and Cymer, Inc. (later acquired by ASML). Young began his career at Intel in 1983 serving as Intel Korea general manager. Later with Intel in Silicon Valley, he was responsible for starting the company’s strategic and highly successful PC chipset business. He currently serves on the MIT Sloan School NA Board, is a senior advisor to private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, is a member of the board of directors at Cadence, and serves on the ARM Asia Pacific Advisory Board. Young earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management
