Jean-Marie BOCKEL is Senator of Haut-Rhin, member of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces Committee. He is also President of Mulhouse Alsace Urban Agglomeration. From 2008 to 2010, he was successively Junior Minister in charge of Cooperation, Junior Minister in charge of Defence, and Junior Minister in charge of Justice. Born on 22nd June 1950 in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin).

Married - 5 children.

Qualifications: Bar Exam, Master’s degree in private law.

Career: Lawyer at the Mulhouse Bar since 1973.

Elective offices: President of the Mulhouse Sud Alsace Agglomeration Community from 2001 to 2005 and President of the Mulhouse Alsace Urban Agglomeration (m2A) since January 2010; Senator of Haut-Rhin from 2004 to 2007 and since December 2010, member of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee; Mayor of Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin) from 1989 to 10^th May 2010; Member of Parliament (National Assembly) for Haut-Rhin, from 1981 to 1984, then from 1986 to 1993 and from 1997 to 2002; President of the French Association of Mayors of Large Cities from 2001 to 2007; Mulhouse City councillor from 1983 to 1989; Member of the General Council of Haut-Rhin from 1982 to 1989 and from 1994 to 1997; Regional Councillor of Alsace from de 1981 to 1984.
