Dr. Doh-Yeon Kim became the 7th President of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in September 2015. He received his B.E. from Seoul National University, M.S. from KAIST, and Ph.D. from Blaise Pascal University in France in materials science and engineering. Before joining POSTECH, Dr. Kim had held various academic positions. He served as the director of the Creative Research Center for Microstructure Science of Materials and as the dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University. He was also the president of the University of Ulsan. As a scholar in materials science and engineering, Dr. Kim has earned a reputation as a pioneer in the field of microstructure science of materials. He was the first Korean researcher in materials science and engineering to publish an article as a special feature in the renowned Journal of American Ceramic Society. Widely known for his research on the effect of interface structure on the microstructural evolution of ceramics, Dr. Kim is currently a fellow of the American Ceramic Society. Dr. Kim also led the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) as its president. Dr. Kim has been a leader in Korea’s policy-making goals to advance science and technology as the minister of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and as the chairman of the National Science & Technology Council. Admired as a distinguished scholar and devoted leader, he was awarded the Order of Science and Technological Merit from the Korean Government and the NAEK Young Engineer Award.
