Sophalleth EANG
Secretary of State, Ministry of Environment, Cambodia
Eang Sophalleth is currently the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment and an assistant to the prime minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. He holds educational qualifications from both Cambodia and Canada. He possesses a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in computer integrated manufacturing, as well as an MBA in finance, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering. Prior to joining the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Eang Sophalleth held various positions in the private sector. He was a research and development engineer at Bettis Canada Inc., managing director of Cambodian Construction Company Ltd., and co-founder of Paragon Corporation. H.E. Eang Sophalleth also has experience in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Cambodia, where he was the Under the Secretaries of State and spokesperson of each respective ministry. He was responsible for international cooperation and the cabinet of the minister, respectively. Regarding his current role as the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Environment, H.E. Eang Sophalleth is particularly responsible for international cooperation and the National Council for Sustainable Development. Since his tenure in the Ministry of Environment in 2016, he has consistently been involved with the formulation of policies and strategies for the environmental sector and spoke at many international forums regarding environmental issues and global response measures.
