Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

Jin Xianglong, doctoral supervisor, is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is considered one of the founding fathers of marine geology in China.He has been committed to the prospecting and research of the seabed in four marginal seas of China. He pioneered China’s shallow water oil and gas prospecting and research efforts, and took the lead in the geophysical prospecting of the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, and East China Sea.He received national recognition for heading a key prospecting project in the continental shelf and adjacent waters. He negotiated at the UN on behalf of China, successfully obtaining an ideal mining area in the eastern Pacific Ocean and helping to put China at the forefront of ocean prospecting and exploration. Jin Xianglong has published more than 100 papers, over 50 of which have been included in SCI or EI. He has authored five books and translated one.He has won one first prize and one second prize in the Science and Technology Progress Awards presented by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and one second prize in the CAS Science Awards. He has also received two first prizes and one second prize in the Science and Technology Progress Awards presented by the State Oceanic Administration (SOA). He was honored with the title of “Advanced Individual” for completing a key project in science and technology during China’s Eighth Five-Year Plan period. In addition, he has won the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize, and the grand prize in the SOA Awards for Innovative Research Results in Oceanology. He was named one of the top ten “Ocean Figures” (individuals who have made exceptional contributions to marine development) in 2013, and was awarded the “Lifelong Dedication to the Ocean” commemorative medal by the SOA in 2016.
