Madam Lyu Hailin is a world-renowned activist as well as an eminent ambassador of Chinese culture overseas, having made outstanding contributions in promoting Chinese culture and expanding China’s global influence with her exceptional leadership, remarkable communication skills and relentless efforts. In 1977, she started her career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, successively serving in the following roles: a teacher of a foreign languages school affiliated to the Ministry; Secretary of the Youth League Committee; and Division Director at the Protocol Department, responsible for protocols for visits of foreign and domestic political leaders. In 1995, she was transferred to the State Administration of Taxation to serve as Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Taxation, dealing with international tax disputes as well as exchanges and cooperation with international organizations. In 2008, she was dispatched to work as Counselor for the Permanent Mission of China to the World Trade Organization in Geneva. During her tenure there, she was elected President of the Asian Women Association. In 2010, with her husband, who was appointed Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, she went to New York, where she organized a number of reputed cultural activities in the diplomatic community of the city, such as traditional Chinese medicine lectures, Chinese art shows, Chinese dumpling parties, charity luncheons and fashion shows, visits of spouses of ambassadors to China and exhibitions of photographs of China visits. In 2011, Madam Lu Hailin was elected President of the Women’s International Forum (an international organization composed of wives of ambassadors to the UN). As a woman who enjoys a high international reputation for her wisdom, charisma and leadership, she is a recipient of many honors and advisory titles, including “Ambassador of Peace” and “Messenger of Peace & Best UN Diplomat.”
