Minister Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE)

Yunmo Sung, born in 1963. Mr. Sung obtained his B.A. of Economics from Seoul National University in 1986 and M.A. of Policy Studies from Seoul National University in 1988. He gained his Ph.D. of Economics from University of Missouri-Columbia in 1998. Since 2018, Mr. Sung has been the Minister, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). From 2017 to 2018, he was the Commissioner of Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). From 2016 to 2017, he was the Deputy Minister for Economic Policy Coordination, Office for Government Policy Coordination under the Prime Minister’s Office. From 2015 to 2016, he took the Spokesperson of Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). From 2014 to 2015, he took as the Director General for Policy Coordination, MOTIE. He was the Director General for High Potential Enterprise Policy, Ministry of Knowledge Economy / Director General for High Potential Enterprise Policy, Small and Medium Business Administration from 2012 to 2014. Mr. Sung was the Minister Counselor of Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva. From 2004 to 2006, he took the Administrative Officer of Office of Information and Policy Monitoring under the Presidential Office (Blue House). And from 2001 to 2003, he was Seconded to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. From 1995 to 2000, he was occupied as the Deputy Director of Industrial Technology Division, Industrial Technology Policy Division, Industrial Technology Planning Division, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
