Vice Chairman, Boao Forum for Asia; Former Governor, People’s Bank of China

Mr. Zhou Wenzhong, born in Jiangsu Province in August 1945, is a university graduate. From 1970 to 1973, he was the staff member of the Beijing Diplomatic Service Bureau of the People’s Republic of China. During 1973 to 1975, he was the student at Bath University and London School of Economics of the United Kingdom. From 1975 to 1978, he became the staff member of the Department of Translation and Interpretation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. From 1978 to 1983, he was appointed as the Attaché and then Third Secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the United States of America. From 1983 to 1987, he was appointed as the Second Secretary, Deputy Division Director and then Division Director of the Department of Translation and Interpretation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. During 1987 to 1990, he was the Deputy Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco in the United States of America. During 1990 to 1993, he was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Barbados and to Antigua and Barbuda. During 1993 to 1994, he took as the Deputy Director General of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. From 1994 to 1995, he was the Consul General (Ambassadorial Rank) of the People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles in the United States of America. From 1995 to 1998, he took as the Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the United States of America. From 1998 to 2001, he was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Commonwealth of Australia. During 2001 to 2003, he was the Assistant Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. During 2003 to 2005, he took as the Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. During 2005 to 2010, he was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the United States of America. From 2010 to 2018, he was the Secretary-General, Boao Forum for Asia; Vice President, China-US People’s Friendship Association. Since 2018 to now, he has been the Vice President, China-US People’s Friendship Association and the Member of the Council of Advisors, Boao Forum for Asia.
