Mr. Charles Chao is Chairman and CEO of SINA Corporation. Joining in SINA in September 1999, Mr. Chao served various managerial positions including Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, Co-Chief Operating Officer and President, and has served as Chief Executive Officer since May 2006 and as Chairman of the Board since August, 2012. Mr. Chao has played a vital role in building SINA into a most influential and reputable Chinese portal site. In 2009, SINA launched Weibo.com, a social media company. Under the leadership of Mr. Chao, Weibo was listed in the United States in 2014, and Mr. Chao has served as Chairman of the Board since then. By now, the MAU of Weibo has surpassed 392 million and DAU has surpassed 172 million. Mr. Chao received numerous recognitions and awards, both Chinese and international, such as “the 100 most influential people” (Times, 2011), “China Economic Person of the Year award” (CCTV, 2009), and “Charity Person of the Year” (CCTV, 2014). Mr. Chao received his Master’s degree in Professional Accounting from University of Texas at Austin. He also holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from University of Oklahoma and Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Fudan University.
