Jeffrey Wernick, born in New York, United States on January 22, 1956, is a famous American independent investor. He has a PhD degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Chicago, where he studied under various Nobel Prize laureates. Jeffrey started his career by trading options and futures on the CBOE, CBOT and the CME while studying as an undergraduate and graduate at the University of Chicago. He traded using his own capital accumulated from investing $5,000 in 1971, when he was 15 years old. He later worked at Salomon Brothers, where he engaged in quantitative research and traded the capital of his firm and partners. About 18 months later, he became the youngest senior officer at the National Bank of Detroit. During his time at the National Bank of Detroit, Jeffrey did the earliest known private placements of structured securitization. He then launched a technology-focused venture capital firm and created a hedge fund to invest in distressed and bankrupt companies, helping them restructure their balance sheets. Moreover, as an angel investor, his focus expanded to the sharing economy, biomedicine, and blockchain technologies. His successful investments include companies like Uber and Airbnb. Furthermore, Jeffrey has been an invited speaker at the OCC, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, and others.
