President of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University
KORENAGA Shun is President of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan. He was born in Fukuoka and grown up in Oita, Japan. He is a graduate of Department of Chinese, College of Foreign Language, Osaka University of Foreign Studies (OUFS), and completed the master’s program in Literature (Chinese Language and Literature) at the OUFS Graduate School of Foreign Language. Ph.D. in Language and Culture was conferred by Osaka University. He specializes in Chinese Modern Literature, especially focusing on modern novel writers in the 20th century such as Lu Xun and Mao Dun and modern poets Bei Dao and Mang Ke as well. After a career as a professor of OUFS and Director of the University Library, he served as President of OUFS for four and half years from March, 2003 until October, 2007. In 2008, he joined Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). After serving as Vice-President and Director of APU Confucius Institute, he was appointed as President of APU in January 2010 and has been serving this position up to the present. He is the 1991 recipient of “The 29th Shimazaki Toson Memorial Rekitei Award” for his translation of Mang Ke Poetical Works. He has published or translated 12 books, including Bei Dao Poetical Works in 2009, A Study of Mao Tun’s Novels ― Illusion and Reality in 2012.
