Mr. Koji MIYAHARA, Former Chairman, Board Counselor of NYK Group. Mr. MIYAHARA joined NYK in 1970. From 2000 to 2003, he was in charge of the container, automotive transportation, and IT divisions. He served as President of NYK during the years 2004 through to 2009, and as Chairman from 2009 to 2015. In 2007, he served as Chairman of Nippon Cargo Airlines till 2015. He also became Chairman of The Japanese Ship-owners Association from 2009 to 2011, as well as holding the Chairmanship of the Japan Federation of Freight Industries during that same period. In May 2011, he was commissioned as vice-chairman of the Japan Business Federation until 2015. During his tenure, he concentrated on the issue of logistics, including solving the piracy problems in Somalia, and at the same time he greatly contributed to solving problems between labor and capital. In addition, he also serves as vice-chairman of Japan-China Economic Association and other positions. Mr. MIYAHARA graduated from Tokyo University Law department in 1970. He was decorated the Commandeur de l’Ordre de la Couronn of the Kingdom of Belgium in March 2010. In July 2012 he received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award for contribution to the international shipping industry of Japan. He was also awarded the Order“Manuel Amador Guerrero” in the degree e of "Gran Official" from the Republic of Panama in October 2012.
