Chairman of Board of Directors, Mars, Incorporated

Stephen Mills Badger II has been a member of the Mars, Incorporated Board of Directors since 2008. During his first term as Chairman from March 2011 to March 2014, Stephen stewarded the development of a 25-year vision shared by the Board and the Mars Leadership team; advanced Board effectiveness, and managed the succession process of the Mars management team’s CEO. Stephen also represented Mars at strategic business forums including Boao Forum for Asia. Stephen will take on a second term as Chairman of the Board in March 2017. He is a fourth generation member of the Mars family whose great-grandfather, Frank C. Mars, founded the company in 1911.

Stephen was one of the largest investors and key developmental influences of Seeds of Change, an organic seed and food company whose mission is to preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable, organic agriculture. Stephen was President of the corporation from 1995 until 2004 when he became the global Director of Corporate Affairs for Mars, Incorporated. Acting in this role through 2007, Stephen refocused the Mars’ corporate Affairs function and was responsible for key personnel, crisis management, government affairs, public policy, media relations, and internal corporate communications. 

Stephen serves on the Board of Directors of Island Press, a publisher of books on ecology and conservation. In 2012-2013, he produced Muscle Shoals, a documentary film about FAME Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
