Nev Power, Chief Executive Officer, FMG Ltd is responsible for leading one of the world’s largest, lowest cost producers of iron ore. Since his appointment in July 2011, FMG has more than quadrupled its production to now exceed 165 million tonnes per annum while reducing production costs by over two thirds to position FMG at the lowest end of the global cost curve. In 2015, FMG generated revenue of approximately US$9 billion. The company is recognized for its unique culture, innovation and world class infrastructure and mining assets in the Pilbara, Western Australia. FMG believes in generating long term value for its stakeholders through empowerment, valuing communities and respecting the environment. Nev has led FMG’s commitment to safety excellence, and to the Billion Opportunities program which has awarded over $1.8 billion in contracts to Aboriginal businesses. Prior to joining FMG, Nev held Chief Executive positions at Thiess and the Smorgon Steel Group adding to his extensive background in the mining, steel and construction industries. Nev also has a long history in agribusiness and aviation holding both fixed wing and helicopter commercial pilot licenses. He is a passionate advocate for the development of northern Australia and for its communities to reach their full potential.
He is an Executive Director on the FMG Board, a Fellow of both Engineers Australia and The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and member, Australian Institute of Company Directors. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. Nev was raised on a grazing property in western Queensland and continues to run the family cattle business. He is married with three adult sons.
