Daniel M. Tsai is chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, the second largest and most comprehensive financial services group in Taiwan, with total assets of $187.81 billion as of December 2015. Over the past half-century, Fubon Financial Holdings has evolved from a property and casualty insurer into a banking, securities, life insurance, and asset management business. Mr. Tsai joined Fubon Group in 1981. During his 36-year tenure, he has strived to grow the company in Taiwan while also leading Fubon’s expanding into the mainland of China and Hong Kong. Institutional Investor magazine cited him as the “Best CEO in Taiwan” in 2003, and under his management, Fubon Financial Holdings was singled out by Euromoney as Taiwan’s number-one financial institution in terms of corporate governance for six consecutive years beginning in 2004. In recognition of his efforts to integrate financial services in Greater China, Euromoney honored Mr. Tsai for his “Outstanding Contribution to Greater China Financial Services” in 2009, and he received Corporate Governance Asia’s “Asian Corporate Director Recognition Award” for six consecutive years beginning in 2010. Corporate Governance Asia also named him “Asia’s Best CEO (Investor Relations)” for five years in a row since 2011. Mr. Tsai is also involved in the telecommunication and cable TV sector. He is vice chairman of Taiwan Mobile, a leading convergent services provider in Taiwan. Mr. Tsai graduated from Taiwan University in 1978, and received his master’s degree in law from Georgetown University in 1979. He has served on the USC Board of Trustees since April 2012, the Asia Business Council of Trustee since March 2013, and Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society of Trustee since 2014.
