曾益新院士现任中山大学肿瘤防治中心主任。长期从事恶性肿瘤发病机理和生物治疗的研究，从EB病毒感染和遗传因素两个方面对高发于我国南方地区的鼻咽癌进行了系统而深入的研究。其中将家族性鼻咽癌易感基因定位于4号染色体的工作，成为我国在重大复杂疾病遗传学研究方面的突破。近期他在鼻咽癌发病机理方面的研究又取得新的突破：确定了人类白细胞抗原（HLA）基因位点与鼻咽癌的发病有密切的关系，还发现了三个新的易感基因位点，该研究成果为使鼻咽癌成为可预防性疾病奠定了基础。共发表在学术期刊上发表论文200余篇，其中在SCI收录的杂志发表150余篇,包括Nature Genetics 三篇、Nature一篇。作为专家组组长主持 863重大专项“我国重大疾病的分子分型和个体化治疗”，作为首席科学家主持973项目“病毒致癌机制与干预的基础研究”。以第一完成人获国家自然科学二等奖1项，部、省级科技一等奖3项。因在医疗卫生领域的突出贡献，曾益新院士2011年受聘为国务院医改专家咨询委员会副主任委员。

Academician Zeng Yixin currently serves as Director of the Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center. He has long been engaged in the research of cancer pathogenesis and biological treatment systems and has undertaken in-depth research on the high incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in Southern China focused on the two aspects of the EB virus infection and genetic factors. His work of positioning familial nasopharyngeal cancer susceptibility genes to chromosome 4 has been a major breakthrough in the genetic research of complex diseases in China. Recently, Academician Zeng Yixin has made new research breakthroughs in the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma: he established a close link between the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene loci and the incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. He also found three new susceptibility loci points. The research findings have laid a foundation for making nasopharyngeal carcinoma a preventable disease. He has published a total of more than 200 papers in academic journals, over 150 of which are SCI journals, including 3 papers in nature genetics and 1 in nature. As an expert panel leader, he has presided over Program 863’s Key Project on Molecular Typing and Individualized Treatment of Major Diseases in China. As Chief Scientist, he is in charge of Program 973’s Basic Research on Viral Carcinogen Mechanisms and Intervention Project. A first-rate research person, he has won a Grade II National Natural Science Award and three Grade I ministerial and provincial science and technology awards. In recognition of his outstanding contributions in the healthcare field, Academician Zeng Yixin was appointed the deputy Director of the Expert Advisory Committee on Healthcare Reform of the State Council in 2011.
