美国乔治华盛顿大学教授；知名药物”威而钢”理论发明人；1996年获得阿尔伯特．拉斯克基础医学研究奖；1997年美国国家科学院院士；1998诺贝尔生理医学奖得主、1998年获得美国心脏协会的Ciba奖；1998年任美国国家医学研究院院士；2000年获得美国医学院校协会的Baxter奖；2007年获聘为中国科学院外籍院士。此外，他专著并与他人合着了440部医学科学著作。
