Elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in 1980 which represents 88 cities, 134 unincorporated communities and 10.5 million residents and has a $24.5 billion budget. Chairman of the Board seven times. Chairman of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Member, Board of Directors of Metrolink and the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Initiated Clean Air program, converted municipal bus fleet to clean natural gas, streamlined county government to save over $4 billion. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees at California State University Los Angeles. Attended the Intercollegiate Studies Summer Programs at Stanford University and the Kennedy School of Government’s Senior Executives Program at Harvard University. An educator, he was previously elected to the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees and to the California State Legislature. Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush appointed him to numerous presidential commissions, including the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, U.S./Japan Advisory Committee, the Commission on Privatization, and the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations International Conference on Indo-Chinese Refugees. Mr. Antonovich resides in Glendale, California with his wife, Christine Hu, their son, Michael Jr. and daughter, Mary Christine.
